What is a Doula?
The word Doula (Doola or Dooler) comes from the greek word meaning woman servant, helping with the emotional and physical needs of a woman (and her partner/husband) in labour/during birth and after birth too.
Essentially, a doula is focused on mothering the mother, after all mum needs looking after too.
My name is Helen Arundell. I live near Winchester, Hampshire. I am married and I have 4 children.
After the experience of giving birth to my twins (babies 3 & 4) I received alot of help and postnatal support from my family, friends, midwives and a wonderful student from Eastleigh college on work placement. Although it was really hard I was able to come out the other side (there is light at the end of the tunnel!)
As a result I want to to be able to help with baby or babies and support other new parents who are expecting a baby or 2! Whether it is your 1st baby, 2nd or 4th we all need help and support and to be told that we are doing a good job.
